It's a lovely book about a girl comes up with a plan to tame the wind by harnessing the power of trees. Written by award-winning author Liz Garton Scanlon.

Up close and personal! OPB filming Lee for an upcoming episode of Oregon Art Beat.

Post by Lisa

OPB just finished up two days of filming Lee for its Emmy-winning show, Oregon Art Beat! The show, which is in its 19th season, profiles artists throughout the Northwest 😀

The filming mostly focused on Lee's artwork and painting process, but they also had him do some funny B Roll stuff, like re-enacting his morning commute, which involves walking through the backyard to what used to be the old tool shed. Hollywood here he comes!

The kittens were very curious and one may or may not have attacked the camera. Not sure if they will make the final cut!

The segment profiling Lee is expected to air sometime in December. Details to come.

Lee will be part of the upcoming The Original Art 2017 exhibit!

The exhibit, put on by the Society Of Illustrators, showcases art from the best picture books of the year. Lee is one of the featured artists for the picture book Emma and the Whale 😀 It's quite an honor to be selected!

The illustration above will be on display at the Society of Illustrators in NY from Nov. 1 thru Dec. 30. It's loosely inspired by the lovely beaches on Bainbridge Island, in the Puget Sound.

The SCBWI Oktoberfest conference is here! It's a great event for authors and illustrators looking to build a career in kidlit. Lee will be one of the faculty there 😀

He will be doing a demo of how to paint digitally, using the image above. The original was done traditionally in watercolor, but he will be revealing some of his secrets for making digital painting look traditional

Great review from Publishers Weekly!

A bit of good news in all this gloom 😀

Love, Santa, which Lee illustrated, got a great review from Publishers Weekly! It's a really beautiful story, so it's nice to see it get some love.

It's all about how a girl comes to learn the truth behind Santa, and how she carries on the spirit of Christmas. We will definitely read it to our little guy when he is a little older and ready to know that Santa is bigger than any one person 😉

It's written by the amazingly-talented Martha Brockenbrough, a Seattlite who has written a whole lot of books for young readers.

It's due out on 9/26!

Praying for rain!

Praying for rain! It seems strange to say that here in Portland, where the rainfall is legendary. But it's been dry for months and now wildfires are consuming our forests.

The ash is falling from the sky like snow and the air is thick with smoke. We spent last night hunkered down in our one room with AC to help filter out the smoke. We ate a picnic dinner on the bedroom floor.

It's heartbreaking to think of our beloved Columbia River Gorge blackened by fire. We have gone on many magical adventures there over the years...

At least the temps are coming down a bit this week. Now if the rains would just start...

Lee's art book starts shipping tomorrow!

Post by Lisa

We've been waiting for this day a LONG time!

Lee started showing his own artwork at art fairs back in 2010, and people there would always ask if he had any books of his work. But life kept us super busy until finally in 2016, when he decided to see if he could get it funded on Kickstarter.

It tooks months of preparation before we even launched the campaign in October 2016. Then came several months of designing, writing and copy editing. Then came several more months of printing and proofing the book, which took much longer than anticipated. We learned a lot along the way!

But now it's finally here! We will be working day and night to get these out in the next couple weeks 😀 Thanks again to all who took part!
